How To Celebrate Earth Day While Practicing Social Distancing
Earth day is a day dedicated to supporting environmental protection and to appreciate all that nature provides us. You may be struggling to figure out how you can celebrate Earth Day with the “shelter in place” restrictions in place. Here are a few ways that you can celebrate while staying at home and practicing social distancing.
1) Plant a tree or some seeds. You can purchase seeds online at places like Burpee Home Gardens, or pick up plants using a curbside delivery service like the one the Armstrong Garden Center offers. Gardening is a great way to stay active while enjoying fresh air. You can plant yourself some fruits and vegetables so that you can enjoy fresh, healthy foods while at home. If you don’t have a yard, you can plant the seeds in a pot. If you are unsure of how to garden, this is the perfect time to learn! Check out this website for more information on planting your own garden. You can also learn how to start a vegetable garden from scratch in your backyard by clicking here.
2) Shop brands that support environmental causes. Plant a Tree will plant a tree for every product purchased. Beautycounter introduced a Give Em’ Lip lipstick collection with paper tubes that reduce the environmental imact by 83% per tube (and the colors are fantastic)! Sand Cloud uses fabric made from recycled products and they donate 10% of their sales to marine life conservation.
3) Learn more about wildlife as a family by watching some of the new programs on Disney + like Elephant, Dolphin Reef, and Penguins.
4) Practice Yoga or Meditate outside (practice social distancing). It’s another great way to stay active and connect with the earth. Alo Moves is a platform by Alo Yoga that has great yoga classes on it. I would also recommend Headspace for guided mediations.
5) Go for a jog or walk in your neighborhood. Even with the stay at home restrictions in place, you are allowed to exercise in your neighborhood. Maintain at least 6 feet for social distancing and have a mask or something to cover your mouth and nose just in case you run across a group of people unexpectedly.
