COVID Safe Halloween Activities in SoCal
Many of us were hoping that the COVID-19 crisis would be over here in the USA by the time the holidays rolled around. Since that is not the case, you may be struggling with how to celebrate Halloween in a safe and fun way. I know for me, Halloween is my second favorite holiday (Christmas being #1) and I love to create costumes and dress up for the occasion. So I’ve done a little research to find the top activities to do for Halloween in Souther California that are both fun and safe.
Knott’s Taste Of Fall-O-Ween!
Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park has come up with a really fun way to celebrate Halloween and the Fall season in a safe way. During their Taste of Fall-O-Ween event, guests of all ages are encouraged to dress up in festive costumes and experience unique food and treats exclusive to the event. Guests will also be able to shop specialty items from local crafters. The event will last from September 25- November 1.
Regular tasting cards include 5 tastings and kids tasting cards include 3 tastings plus a trip to Camp Snoopy and the Trick-Or-Treat Trail. Everything will be socially distanced and face masks are required to participate in this event. You must purchase a ticket ahead of time on their website. But, tickets a selling out super fast so don’t procrastinate.
Visit Local Pumpkin Patches
There are many pumpkin patches in the area that are open and socially distanced. There are even a few with drive through options. It’s a great opportunity to get out the house and take some awesome Fall photos. Just be sure to bring your mask with you (help keep us all safe). You can find a list of suggested pumpkin patches clicking here.
I plan to visit the Pumpkin Patch at Descanso Gardens. Children under 14 can wear costumes with masks. There is a Pumpkin House and Children’s Hay Maze. Wooden Jack-O’- Lanterns, a Pumpkin Arch, and Pumpkin mandales. You must purchase a ticket in advance so make sure you settle on a date soon before they’re sold out.
Stranger Things Drive Into Experience
If you’re a Stranger Things fan, for sure check this out! The event is experienced entirely from the safety of your own vehicle. It’s about 1 hour long and dressing for the occasion is encouraged. The suggested age for the event is 13+ and tickets start at $59 per car with 2 people in the car. Click here to get your tickets.
L.A. Zoo’s Halloween Celebration
The LA zoo is hosting a 4 night drive in movie event starting on October 29. This event will feature Halloween movie classics along with a virtual costume contest and photo opportunities. Did I mention there will also be a candy pick up station?? Count me in! Also, the first 50 decorated cars to arrive will receive a pumpkin and a carving stencil of an LA Zoo Animal. The price for the weekend will be $100 per vehicle for up to 2 people. Gates open at 6pm and the movie will begin a 8:30pm. To find out more and to purchase tickets online, click here.
Host a Virtual Pumpkin Carving & Costume Party
Host a virtual party with your friends and/or family. Head to one of the previously mentioned pumpkin patches or your local super market to get your pumpkin. Trader Joe’s also has a fantastic selection FYI. Get your pumpkin carving or decorating supplies from the Dollar Tree or the 99cent only store. Next, grab yourself a Halloween cocktail or mocktail and get ready for your virtual party! Create prizes for best costume and best & worst pumpkin carvings. You can send digital gift cards to the winners! Also, make sure to have your favorite Halloween songs or movies playing in the background.
Drive-Thru Experiences
There are a wide variety of drive through Halloween experiences that are available. Be aware the most are priced for 2 people per vehicle. Also, it’s suggested that you buy tickets in advance before they’re sold out. Here is the list:
